Help me give my students the gift of reading. By contributing to this project, you will be helping to give each child in our school one book per month for an entire school year!
When the term literacy is mentioned, reading is often the first thing that comes to mind. Reading is an essential skill that every child needs in order to become a successful adult. There are many opportunities our school uses to develop our children’s love for reading including: family library nights, community guest readers, and book giveaways. However, we could do more to promote the love and excitement of reading.
For our project, we want our students to realize that reading can transport them to places they have never been before.
Our goal is to inspire students with the intrinsic motivation to read outside of the school walls. This project would allow us to provide every child in our elementary with one new book to take home every month. Many of our families are just trying to put food on the table, and do not have the money to purchase books. By sending books home, we will being giving each child the gift of reading.
Our school has an average enrollment of of 355 students with 65% of the student population receiving free or reduced price lunch.
My Project
For our project, we want students to realize that reading can transport them to places they have never been before. Our goal is to inspire students with the intrinsic motivation to read outside of the school walls. The grant funding would allow us to provide every child at our elementary with one new book to take home every month. Many of our families are just trying to put food on the table, and do not have the money to purchase books. By sending books home, we will being giving each child the gift of reading.
We hope students will increase their reading levels through practice at home, develop a love reading, and most importantly realize that literacy has the ability to change their future and take them anywhere.
