My Students

My students are bright and kind! They have a love for books and love for life. They are inspired and motivated by the books they read and share that enthusiasm.

My students use books as a window to the world!

My students have a hunger for learning and exploring. They love to use books to feed this hunger. My students use what they learn from books in their daily lives and share that knowledge with others. They also use their imagination through books to explore new worlds. My students truly bring joy to our school library!

My Project

My students love to read but get stuck with choosing the same old titles they always pick. Battle of the Books is a reading competition and incentive program that motivates students to read more and to select titles they would never normally pick up! To participate in Battle of the Books the students are required to read at least 5 books from a list of 20 for their age group. The students are then put on teams and work together to read all 20 books! After having a few months to read their books the students compete in a "battle" that is based on the knowledge of the books.

With Battle of the Books the students branch out of their normal selection and read better quality books all while reading more!

They love the variety and the competition gives them the motivation to do some extra reading! My desire is to have 3 extra copies of each of the books needed for Battle of the Books. Right now all the books for Battle of the Books are checked out and students are anxiously waiting for them to be returned so they can start the required reading! Having extra copies of each of the books for Battle of the Books is critical so that more students are able to access the books to participate and succeed.
