Book Nook Couch!

Help me give my students a comfy couch to encourage reading since we have a large bookcase of books and no place for students to sit down and read them.

My Project

The comfy couch will give my students a place to relax and read before and after school. I believe that literacy is just as much about the environment that is created rather than the words that are memorized. So having a couch that students can relax and grab a book will help spark motivation to read and expand their curiosity.

My goal is to have each student read four books each school year on topics that interest them, helping them gain a love for learning.

This couch will help my students clear an obstacle that some many of us take for granted, which is just a quiet, comfortable place for us to read.

My students come from socio-economically challenging backgrounds and many do not have the basic comforts that are often overlooked. Giving them a place to relax, before, after, or during class can make the difference between having kids who are eager to come to school each day and those who see it as just another chore that they should avoid.
