My Students

Second graders are the best! They are creative, curious, and funny. There is never a dull moment with them. In addition to content, they are learning when to listen and when to be social, how to collaborate and cooperate, and they are learning how to be independent, motivated learners. This is a lot! As a teacher, it is my job to make sure students are enjoying learning so that they continue to love school and become lifelong learners. One way that I can do this is by creating an environment that is comfortable, yet conducive to learning. The materials that I am requesting will help my students remain engaged and motivated learners, while providing lots of practice for the skills I am teaching.

The right book can set the whole tone for a lesson, whether it is a mentor text for a content area, to teach a social skill, or just read for the pure love of reading!

My goal is to have my students engaged and in love with reading and learning each day as they enter my classroom. Great books provide students with text that will engage and motivate them to become lifelong readers and learners!

My Project

I love participating in the classroom book a day challenge that was started by the Book Whisperer, Donalyn Miller. In order to keep the books that students hear and read fresh and relevant to their lives and to the world, I am constantly on the look out for books that I think will match my readers.

Books such as There Might Be Lobsters by Carolyn Crimi can help students learn about coping with anxiety.

Rock What Ya by Samantha Berger is a testament to self-love and believing that each person has something special to share with the world.

Reading aloud is an amazing way to connect with students, learn about them, share and gain insights, and teach lessons that will hopefully carry with them far beyond the moment of the read aloud.
