This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Pre-K students love to read! I am a pre-k teacher on Chicago's south side. Many of the students in the school are considered low-income. With your help, I can provide them with every opportunity possible for bright futures!
Our classroom is full of books. Unfortunately, the books we have are part of our curriculum and cannot be sent home with the students! We have a wonderful lending library program where the students can check out a different book each day, but the books are very old and there are not many to choose from. My students love to read and share stories with their families at home and I want them to be able to take home fantastic books!
Our classroom needs books! Our lending library is very sad looking. There aren't many books available for the students to take home and the ones that are available are in poor condition. Research proves that students who are read to at home become readers earlier themselves. Our program focuses a lot on books and reading good quality books with rich vocabulary.
Thank you for any contribution you can make. Anything you give will help put a book in a child's hands.
