This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My special education English classes are going to be working in groups designed to ensure their literary lives are rich by creating a reading club. Each team will get together to share their book experience and it will culminate in a project that highlights the main themes. We have a small classroom library but not enough to reach all the students. With this package of goodies they will also be able to explore their creative side. They get to choose from visuals like creating a book trailer, which will require group storyboarding and that is what the poster boards are for. They will also use them as dialogue guides for their actors. They can create a board game that highlights the main points of the book or a timeline and that is what the art supplies like callouts, and markers are for. The end of the project will include a reflection and all of their reading logs and many of my students cannot even afford loose leaf paper. This is a Title 1 school so the students need the extra help and this will offer me a chance to gift that to them!

Through this ongoing project, our students will harness their creativity through artistic and literary expression to ensure they can access the information and this is especially important within a special education setting.
