Help me give my students flexible seating, a vacuum, and a variety of books to encourage reading, along with library supplies to keep our books repaired and on the shelf.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Over 85% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Yet, they arrive at school each morning eager and ready to give their best. Our students are developing a love for learning.
They especially love reading which is a key component to all other academics skills and subjects.
My project is to encourage a love for reading by having a variety of books that are on the shelf and readily available! At our Title I school most students do not have the ability to visit local libraries. Many students do not come from homes that have the financial means to purchase books. This makes our school library the only place to find books to take home and read.
I've also included other supplies. After students check out books, they enjoy a soft place to curl up and enjoy a great read. Alternate seating will make our library an inviting place to visit. Books always seem to to need repairs so I added tape and labels. For some reason, our carpets never get vacuumed, so now our library will be a clean place to be. Finally, I've ordered tons of stickers and book marks as incentive for students to follow the rules in the library.
