This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the joy you felt when you read a whole book by yourself? How many times did you read the book before you were confident in your reading skills? My students are developing into readers and they need books that will help them practice again and again so they can become independent.

I am a Kindergarten teacher going to 2nd grade for the first time.

I have 35 students enrolled in my classroom for this coming year. The students mostly come from low-income homes and according to the State Board of Education 99.3% of the students at my school were low-income students in 2009-2010. Most of my students are English Language Learners (ELLS), which means that they speak a second language at home that is not English. Due to the fact that they come from low-income homes, it is often a struggle for parents to buy necessary home items. This means that they definitely have no money to spare, to spend on enriching their children’s lives by buying books. I find myself lacking materials to be adequately prepared to start the new academic year.

My Project

The materials I am requesting are 6 sets of guided reading books that are leveled for the second grade students. The sets contain books that are on level and above level to challenge the students. The on level books are especially valuable because they will allow the students to interact with text at their level and experience success.

Your donations will make an impact in the reading skills of the students.

It will provide our classroom with essential reading materials for the school year. Your help on this project will place books in the hands of developing readers.
