Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My seventh-grade English Language Arts students are wonderful. They are kind, thoughtful, and for the most part, love to read. They are mostly from Queens, NY (Ridgewood). My school is a Title I school, which means that a large percentage of our students come from low-income households.
This project will enable me to refresh my library - both with popular new books and a variety of accessible historical fiction students to help reluctant and struggling readers connect literature with their Social Studies class.
As a 7th-grade ELA teacher, one of the most important things I can do is make sure that my library is well stocked with new, popular, and diverse titles. I do my best to get books from local book sales, but it's difficult to get new and rare titles without paying full price, which adds up.
This project will enable me to stock my library with some new books my students would be excited to read - Rick Riordan's new book, a graphic novel about Captain America, more titles in the I Survived series, and additional titles in the fun History Smashers series.
This project will help make my student avid readers. Your support would be appreciated!
