My Project
My students love to read and create!
They yearn for great new books that represent their lives, histories, and cultures.
Representation in books empowers and supports students’ academic success.
My goal is that students see themselves in the books they read. Our population is wonderfully diverse and thus our books should be as well. Diverse books give students opportunity to read about lives different than theirs. Diverse books will help all of my readers.
I am requesting book displays that will feature biographies that celebrate diverse amazing people throughout history written by and featuring people of diverse races, identities, heritages, and beliefs.
I am also requesting markers for students to use when making self portraits! Students love to represent themselves. Being able to showcase who you are support our identities! Believe or not, markers are costly and outside of a traditional budget. Thank you for helping students represent themselves.
