My kids are incredibly enthusiastic learners who are very eager to get their hands on new reading material. I currently have 30 fifth graders in my classroom that strive for success. The class contains a variety of different backgrounds and academic abilities but they all come to school excited with smiles on their faces. I'm very fortunate to be around kids who have a positive attitude and treat their classmates with respect!
It's very refreshing seeing a classroom of students who care about their education and want to make the people in their lives proud.
The students I work with truly deserve the best education possible because every single day they make me laugh and make me appreciate how lucky I am to positively impact their lives.
My Project
Our class will soon be participating in book clubs. Two of the novels I chose for their book clubs will focus on overcoming adversity.
The real purpose here is to get students excited about reading in an engaging way with their peers.
The Boy on the Wooden Box is a historical fiction novel that will allow students to see what it was like to be a Jewish boy in Poland during World War II. Students will get a better understanding of what life was like for Leyon Leyson during this time period. The second book, Firegirl also features characters who face a difficult situation and standing up for what they believe.
Our book clubs will give students the chance to facilitate their own discussions for their books. Students will thoroughly analyze the novel and be assigned a specific role. Each job will present a different role to their groups.
Students will bring their own questions they have about their books. Other students will share their connections and how this novel relates to them or outside the classroom. Students will discover new vocabulary words presented in the group and also create visualizations of the novel.
