Book Clubs Help Develop Grit With Perseverance, Passion And Practice
My students need copies of books with the theme "Overcoming Obstacles" to use during our book clubs and to develop our "Grit in Reading" which requires perseverance, passion and practice.
Do you remember your favorite book as a child? When it was finished, do you remember searching the shelves for the next best book? My fifth grade students share that passion and excitement about reading and find joy in devouring the newest books added to my classroom library.
My students are book loving, avid readers who are on a path to become lifelong readers.
They are constantly reading both at home and in school. In addition, my students meet in book clubs to share and discuss story elements, thoughts, predictions and evaluations of the books they are reading. This fuels their love of reading and creates for lively book discussions in our classroom.
My Project
Using books with the theme of overcoming obstacles teaches my students how to develop their own grit in navigating their school and home lives. Reading titles such as "The Running Dream" and "Fish in a Tree" helps my students understand that even though life has struggles, we can work together to overcome them by talking about the struggle, problem solving and taking a risk.
Books teach life lessons and my students will use the book club books as springboards to their own reading greatness.
With your help, my students will have books that they can be passionate about and can talk about with their books clubs.
