My Project

In today's fast-paced digital age, cultivating a love for literature among young minds can be a challenging endeavor. However, at our small charter school, we are dedicated to nurturing intellectual curiosity and critical thinking through the power of books. With the launch of our innovative reading intervention class, we aim to immerse students in the captivating world of modern Young Adult (YA) novels, fostering a vibrant book club culture within our liberal arts-focused community.

MY vision for this reading intervention class is not merely to improve reading skills but to ignite a passion for literature and meaningful discourse.

By selecting contemporary YA novels, we recognize the importance of relevance and relatability in engaging today's youth. These novels, with their diverse characters and relevant themes, serve as mirrors reflecting the experiences and challenges of our students, sparking empathy and understanding.

To emulate the authentic book club experience, we understand the significance of providing ample copies of each selected book. With a target of 12 to 15 copies per title, we ensure that every student has access to the same literary journey, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared exploration. Through lively discussions and thoughtful reflections, students will not only enhance their comprehension skills but also develop crucial communication and critical thinking abilities.

Moreover, by integrating this initiative into our liberal arts curriculum, we emphasize the intrinsic value of literature in shaping well-rounded individuals. Beyond academic achievement, we aim to cultivate empathy, resilience, and a lifelong appreciation for learning. Through the pages of these novels, students will discover new perspectives, confront societal issues, and forge connections with their peers and the world around them. By harnessing the power of modern YA literature, we empower students to become active participants in their education, fostering a generation of lifelong readers and engaged citizens.
