My Project
At our elementary school, our students come to school each day full of curiosity, creativity, and the desire to learn. They come from diverse backgrounds and bring with them a wide range of experiences, strengths, and needs. One thing they all have in common is their love of stories—stories that reflect who they are, help them understand others, and spark their imagination. I am constantly inspired by their resilience, empathy, and the kindness they show to one another. They deserve access to high-quality literature that supports not only their academic growth, but their social and emotional development as well.
This project will provide students with a rich selection of books that focus on social-emotional learning (SEL) and character development.
The books chosen will help students explore important topics like empathy, self-regulation, friendship, and perseverance. These resources are especially important for our young readers as they begin to understand themselves and others in deeper ways. Having access to these texts will allow us to have meaningful classroom discussions, support individual emotional needs, and create a more inclusive and supportive classroom environment. With these books, students will be able to see themselves in the pages and learn to celebrate the differences of others.
My goal is to ensure that every student, regardless of background or ability, has access to engaging and empowering literature. This project will help level the playing field, giving all students the opportunity to build literacy skills and emotional awareness and new tools to regulate their big emotions at the same time.
My students are so special because of their big hearts and their willingness to grow. With the support of this project, they will have the tools they need to thrive—not just as learners, but as kind, thoughtful members of their community.
