My Students

Connection is the most important part of my classroom. Whether that’s connecting to each other, connecting to learning, or connecting with the materials, we are lucky enough to have.

I think students learn best by doing.

I want to create a classroom where students can be hands-on and learn from being involved in learning. Please help my young learners reach their potential by donating!

I work in a diverse school in Indianapolis. We have a wonderfully diverse population with a large number of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. I work in a wonderful district, but often the extras that make a classroom wonderful come down to the teachers purchasing themselves. Any help is appreciated in making my students 1st grade experience as special as possible.

My Project

I remember as a child falling in love with types of books. Whether it was fractured fairy tales or a certain author or theme, once I fell in love with one I wanted to read everything I could that was like it.

This is a lofty project, but it has been a dream of mine to have rich and wonderful books in my classroom library.

My library is currently sorted only by reading level. While I like that my students can easily find good fit books, I want them to look beyond reading levels and find books that they love, which is why (with your help) I want to make themed book bins for students. I want to inspire my students and spoil them with choice in reading.

My goal is to make several different themed tubs (non-fiction, books with great characters, perspective, personal narratives, kindness, friendship, comic books, young reader chapter books, fractured fairy tales and picture books).

I know this is a big ask, but I am hopeful that this crazy idea could be a wonderful reality for my first graders and when they go shopping for books they will have so many wonderful choices. Thank you for considering in helping us!
