My students come from a variety of backgrounds. We are 86% English Language Learners, 86% Free and/or Reduced Lunches, Title I school, Migrant Families, and in a low income neighborhood.
My students come from households that can be unstable and school is one place where they can feel safe and adequate resource to help facilitate their scholastic experience.
We, at LOS, aim to create a safe and creative atmosphere for our students. A safe learning environment is our goal.
Live OES is an Accelerated Reader school and students spend a significant time during the day reading independently in my classroom. Accelerated Reader is a computer program where students take quizzes after reading and get rewards for how many books or words they have read throughout six week periods. Research indicates that a student who reads just 20 minutes per day the will be exposed to 1.8 million words per year and score in the 90th percentile on standardized tests.
Book Boxes give them a personal way to keep their books organized and safe.
Students will enjoy having their own place to keep their books safe and secure.
