it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a Language Arts teacher at a middle school in New York City. The population of my school and class is very diverse. Over 95% of my school's population receives free lunch, which is a strong indicator that the overwhelming majority of students come from lower-level income households. This, however, doesn't slow us down. Not one bit.
I have an incredible group of resilient students who have returned to school with a hunger for reading.
As an ELA teacher, I’m constantly trying to find books that are interesting and on the proper level for my students, but as many kids have missed so much time in the classroom, this task is now harder than ever. My classroom library needs a variety of high-interest reading materials, particularly books in series, so when a kid finds a book they love, they can enjoy the rest of the collection.
More than half of students from low‑income households
