My Students

"You HAVE to read this book!" This is a common phrase in our classroom that I hear at least once a day. My students are a mix of learners, but reading is a top priority in our room that runs a common thread among each of my kids.

We have made becoming better readers a focus in our room, where they are always looking to sneak in time to read just one more chapter.

I remind my students every day that to become a better learner, writer, thinker, and person we should strive to become better readers.

My students and I are always on the lookout for books that are engaging and interesting. They love to give recommendations and discuss books that they have enjoyed to hopefully bring a new book into a friend's life.

My Project

These books will support the atmosphere of building readers that is present in our classroom. Instead of books that students cannot relate to or have trouble reading, these texts will improve student literacy and comprehension. By choosing books that they can both relate to and learn from, doors will be open for the readers in my room. Not only are there characters that are like them, but there are cultures and historical events that they have never experienced that will widen their view of the world. These books will help promote the idea that the basis of a great learner begins with a great reader!
