My Project

In my 11 years of teaching, I've never seen kids get excited about reading like when we host book club. I did this in my previous school, but unfortunately I had to leave my collection of book club books there. This project helps me kick-start 3rd grade book club at my new school!

Our optional 3rd grade book club gives students their own copy of The Mouse and the Motorcycle.

They get to read the book (alone or with an adult or friends). At the end of the month, they bring a project to school that answers a few questions that I gave them about the book. The project can be as simple as a piece of notebook paper or as fancy as a decorated box, as long as they answer the 3 questions. The goal is to get our kiddos EXCITED about reading!

The best part of this project is our celebration at the end of the month! To celebrate and share our projects after reading the book, students are invited to eat lunch in the classroom and share projects. We mix up classrooms for this, and everyone gets SO excited to meet up with friends from other classes! This is a great way to engage students in conversation about what they are reading. They love getting together with friends and sharing their thoughts on the book!

Mrs. Harrell will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by July 31.
