My students are curious, engaged, and eager to learn new things. They are community builders and critical thinkers. In our classroom, we foster an environment where it is safe to take risks and where students support each other.
Our students are diverse with many students excelling in academics, athletics, and artistic endeavors, as well as struggling with various disabilities and learning challenges.
Our primary social focus is community building and character education.
We are a fast-growing area and many students are from other places. Regardless of where our students come from, they deserve to be successful. Our school is their home and our tight-knit community works closely together to see that all students have the chance and the materials to learn and grow. Our students are amazing! They dream and think and question, always wondering about the world around them. They are the scientists, inventors, authors, artists, mathematicians, and visionaries of tomorrow. By fostering an environment of collaboration, community, healthy competition, and risk-taking, we are building a future that will make us proud.
My Project
My classroom is a place where flexibility is the rule, not the exception. Students are not tethered to a single fixed workspace. Students start the day at an assigned seat to receive instruction and directions for the morning. Once that has concluded, students may move within the classroom to spaces that fit their work style and learning needs.
Learning in a flexible classroom creates organizational challenges.
Students do not have a desk where they keep their supplies. Instead, they have an open cubby on our cubby wall. 5th grade students need a lot of guidance in how to organize this space so that materials are not falling out of the cubby on to the floor and so that they can easily and consistently find the supplies they need in a timely manner.
These organizational bins allow students to keep their notebooks, whiteboard, and clipboard upright and organized for quick and easy access. Because these only take up about half of the cubby, they would allow students to keep a pencil box and to easily stack any books they are currently reading. The key to a successful flexible classroom is organization. These book bins would allow my students to stay organized without requiring them to supply their own organizational tools.
Thank you for considering funding this important project. My students will truly appreciate it.
