I teach at a Title One school in Indiana where over 70% of our student population receive free or reduced lunch.
I currently have 22 fun, loving, energetic students who come to school everyday ready to learn new things. One of their favorite areas of our classroom is our Reading Area. The majority of these books are above their reading level, but they are still so excited when it is their turn to visit this area.
My Project
These book bins will be used during our Reading Centers and our during our Partner Reading time. The students will also be able to go grab their bin when they finish their work and have free time.
Each student will have their own individual bin filled with books that are at their personal reading level. New books at higher levels will be added when the students are ready for them. Leveled readers help students become confident, proficient readers.
Many of my students do not have access to many books at their reading level when they leave school each day.
The more books I can have available to them during the school day provides them more opportunities to become great readers.
