My Students

I'm the teacher of the Intellectually Disabled Moderate (IDM) program at my middle school. This is my third year teaching, and I'm still working on building up my resources. I work at a low-income school. Our school has few resources, and most of the families I work with are at or below the poverty level. I don't want to let lack of resources stand in the way of my students’ education. I want to be able to provide them with the best learning experience possible.

I have a very diverse classroom with different ability levels.

I would love to provide all my students with opportunities that will help them progress. Unfortunately, it is difficult to accomplish my goals when resources are limited and the demand is high. I have 6th through 8th graders, and all my students are at different ability levels. I have nonverbal students who need different resources than my students who are struggling readers. I created a classroom environment that runs by centers. Some centers lack the resources for the students’ levels. I want to create centers that will enrich all my students’ learning, build a 21st century classroom, and include more art integration.

My Project

Unfortunately, there are not a lot of books out there that fit my students' needs. My students are teenagers but are reading basic sight words. I want to start creating books for my students that are age appropriate.

Having a binding machine and the supplies to bind the journals will give me the opportunity to create a living document that can grow as the school year goes on, as well as a document that students can successfully read.

In this project I am asking for a book binding machine and some paper that we can use for these books. Having the requested binding machine and binding combs will make the book feel more like a book. The requested cardstock will be used to make the books even more colorful to gain students' attention.
