My students are hardworking and ready to learn! Our K-5 school has a very wide range when it comes to academic levels. Many students read below level. Most of my students are from a home that is considered at or below the poverty level.
My school is one of the highest poverty level schools in my district.
As a dual-language immersion school, we have a very diverse community here. Students will be bilingual and bi-literate by the time they leave elementary school. We are also a designated newcomer school for students who are English language learners. Many languages are spoken at our school.
Our library needs to be an inviting, innovative space to help students become 21st Century learners. Exploration, collaboration, innovation!
Our library is outdated and lacks the materials to be a 21st Century space. It is small, cramped, and uninviting. A 21st Century library not only is a space to check out books but is a space where we can read together, create, collaborate, and innovate. One of the biggest obstacles my students face is that the shelves in the library are hard for them to reach.
We need one more book bin to finish our library organization for younger readers to have easier access to books.
This will put books to their level and encourage them to check one out! The bins also allow the younger students to see the covers of the books which will get them excited about all the new books in the library.
