My students are eager to connect with me and other students. They come into my room excited to be at school and ready to show me what they know. We work to learn and grow as readers, authors, and mathematicians. We also work to grow in our relational skills.
Taking care of each other is a big part of our class.
We value kindness, honesty, and we learn how to put others ahead of ourselves. I'm so proud of the hard work my students do every day.
My Project
Throughout my years in the classroom, I have learned that INTEREST in a book is far more important than a book being on the proper level. Fun, silly, and sometimes gross books are engaging for my 2nd graders. Creating a love for reading is the overarching goal for my students.
If you don't love reading, its because you are reading the wrong books!
Help me give my students the "right books." I have learned the hard way that I need to be very targeted with the books I have in my classroom. Quality over quantity has been a hard lesson for me!
I no longer get books from garage sales or library book sales. They tend to be books people aren't interested in. Now, I do research, I talk to my students and learn from them what type of books they WANT to read. It has changed the culture of my class.
