We need an Osmo gaming system, iTunes gift cards for new apps, Boogie boards, a color printer and ink for cross-curricular activities with art, tech, reading, & math.
Kenya, Chris, and Logan are leading the way and thinking of things we could use in class to make everything we do more engaging and interesting. They spend a lot of time wishing we had more resources to use with the iPad, during small group centers, and a way to create/print resources to use later
The students work every day on the iPad and we are limited with the apps we can purchase and access. The students want to broaden our horizons and have more choice and control over the apps we utilize with instruction. We also need access to apps that are expensive but could help with communication barriers and developing functional/life skills. They also think the hands on component of the Osmo gaming /Tiggly system would be a fun way for them to work on their basic academic skills and their weekly life skills work in a way that promotes sharing and turn taking. The students also want access to Boogie boards for small group to share their answers and ideas. They think it would be a good environmental option and money saving option because we wouldn't need to buy dry erase markers for our mini whiteboards anymore. The printer and ink are also important for the students. It will be used to print off task cards and independent work box activity materials for our lowest functioning peers.
My students are all special needs students that need exposure to academic skills in numerous formats and ways in order to obtain mastery. This project will allow these students to work on academic and life skills like adding monetary amounts, using the next dollar strategy to find out how much money to give a cashier, practicing functional/life skills vocabulary together using the Osmo word app. Students will on apps to practice skills like next dollar up, money identification, & content skills. Students will work on social-emotional skills through teamwork/turn taking with the Osmo gaming system, real life problem solving when practicing the next dollar strategy on the iPad and with printed material printed on the new printer, and basic problem solving/life skills when learning new functional vocabulary words to use in future job placement and independent living. The Tiggly iPad game systems will be used with some of peers to teach them basic skills with letters, numbers, and shapes
In Their Own Words
We want more materials in our room to use when we work on skills. We want to have more things to use the iPad with that can actually benefit us and our needs. We will need apps that span multiple grade levels to meet our diverse needs. We need apps for pre-school skills to middle/high school content. We also want to have the resources to create new work tasks for small group and independent activities. We could use the printer to print off new activities after we make or help create them.
We will use the materials to help other students in the room. We want to have better things for our class. We will help our teacher use the resources to create new activities for us to do and practice skills we need in the real world.
This project will provide our classroom with more materials and technology than we currently have. The opportunity to print our own things in color, buy educational apps we like and can use, and interact with one another using the Osmo gaming system and Boogie Boards will be helpful. We need more things to help us generalize a skill taught and then maintain it.
