Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Sometimes a classroom is the only safe haven in a world riddled with chaos and that same classroom, for a young child, can become the first step in a journey to reach goals and dreams. Education is a key I want all my students to discover.
My students are amazing, capable and inspired fifth graders who just so happen to live in an impoverished area of California that is riddled with drugs, crime and unemployment.
I want to offer them an educational experience in our classroom where, for those amazing seven hours they are with me, they can focus on academics and not the periphery. I firmly believe, with the right organizational tools and structure in place to get them started, these kiddos CAN and WILL rise up to reach the grade level work I know they are capable of. I also believe these students can rise up as high as any student anywhere and I am trying to provide the kind of environment and educational instruction, so that this kind of learning can start happening. If a student can spend less time shuffling papers and losing focus, while trying to find their supplies, they can spend more time being focused on the academic side of class! Won't you join us in this endeavor? It's going to be great.
My Project
My students need 35 binders, 50 pocket folders, 40 white boards, regular and dry-erase markers, 36 cubbies, 2 electric pencil sharpeners and a 10 drawer rolling cart, to become organized and focused students ready to learn and reach their highest potential! When it comes to education, there is so much at stake with my students; many of these students have yet to master the organizational skills needed to be successful in school. With the requested organizational tools, like binders, folders, white boards, dry erase markers, cubbies and separate trays in which to turn in their many different subject papers, my students will have the necessary tools any student needs to be focused on learning in the classroom, so they can concentrate on their academics. With this organizational structure effectively in place, these students can then begin their journey to reaching and even exceeding grade level reading and math skills.
My students face a myriad of challenges every day.
What these supplies will do for my kiddos is to offer them a classroom environment that will focus their attention on learning all day long. It also has to be said that my students don't often have much given to them, so this donation of supplies will also work to boost the self esteem and self worth of these 33 Fifth graders, as they realize that complete strangers are not only concerned with who they are, but are also invested in their future.
