Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Body Worlds at the Museum of Science and Industry is an absolutely fabulous exhibit! Thus far this year students have learned about and created their own digestive systems and respiratory systems, and the other body systems are on the way. However, Body Worlds would give students one of the most unique experiences of their lives, in addition to really seeing what the different systems look like. In biology we spend a lot of time talking about how biology relates to us as humans. We can talk about cancer and look at some pictures of it, but seeing real organs with what cancer looks like is mind-blowing! In working in an under-resourced school class dissections will be a challenge. I am able to bring in pictures of different organs, but the students' closest hands-on experiences are usually with construction paper and yarn. In order to participate in a trip to Body Worlds for sixty students it would be necessary to obtain two buses, sixty boxed lunches and sixty passes into the exhibit. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for many students who have not been fortunate enough to visit a museum, let alone an exhibit which relates 100% to them as humans.
