This upcoming school year I will have a diverse class of 29 first graders. I am pursuing a degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages so will have a large group of non-native English speakers in my class. My students are naturally curious, active and love to experiment with how things move and work.
My students do best when they are allowed to move while learning and working independently.
Learning should occur in a developmentally appropriate way with ample time for play and movement. The more opportunities my students have to move the more motivated and enthusiastic they are about learning.
My Project
Last year I taught Kindergarten and my students visited a first grade classroom at the end of the year. They fell in love with the Hokki stools. They loved sitting on them and said they hoped they would be able to get to use them next year. In September, I will be teaching first grade and have some of my students from last year again. I would love to surprise them with the Hokki stools they want so much. I am asking for two different sizes to accommodate taller and shorter students. I think these stools will help all my students and especially ones who have a hard time sitting still during independent work.
I would love to give my students the opportunity to use Hokki stools so they will have more movement time every day.
The flexible stools will help them build their stamina during independent work time by allowing them the freedom to move as they wish without disturbing others. It will also keep them engaged longer because they can move freely while they are learning and working.
