This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Established in 1979, our school provides educational and support services for children with hearing or vision loss in our school system. Some of the students have additional challenges that magnify the impact of the vision or hearing loss. Each of the students has special needs and requires extensive technology and assistance to succeed in a school setting.
Students attend classes at one of three locations: the elementary, middle, or high school campus.
In addition, itinerant services are provided throughout our county for students whose disability is not severe enough to require full-time placement at one of the campuses. Services are also provided in several area counties.
My Project
Hands on learning is so much fun and having living animals to learn from is even better!
Help give our students a chicken coop and accessories to learn for years to come!
The chicken coop, water station, and feeder will house two chickens that the students will help take care of. They will learn where eggs come from first hand, how chickens can help make wonderful fertilizer for our garden, and tons more life lessons. Teaching the students at a young age how to be self sufficient is beneficial for life. We strive to teach our students both academics and life skills and the chickens will help in both areas.
Not only will the chickens help teach the students about responsibility but cooking as well. We have an ADL kitchen in our school and the eggs will be used by our older students to make healthy meals for their friends.
The locks and nesting liners will be used in the coop to help give the chickens a soft ground and protection from intruders.
These chickens will provide tons of learning opportunities for all of our students!
