Help me give my students whiteboards, markers, and an AV cart for a chance to show what they know and get feedback without having to say their answer out loud.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a math inclusion teacher in a rural high school. The school has over 1,000 students that range from 9th to 12th graders in courses from Algebra I up to Advanced Mathematical Decision Making. The math inclusion class setting allows students who need extra support in math, to receive the services without having to be pulled out of the classroom. Current district data indicates that students entering into the 9th-grade struggle with mathematical problem-solving. As a new teacher, my goal is to increase student achievement in the math department.
My Project
No two students learn exactly the same. In the same respect, no two students show what they know in the same way. As an educator, facilitator and "inspirator" it is my duty to see that every student has the opportunity to learn and express their knowledge in their way.
We are creating a learning environment and experience that our students have never seen.
A place where the lessons are centered and driven by the students. A place where students are comfortable making mistakes and eager to excel.
Our classroom is in need of personal whiteboards, dry erase markers, bean bags and floor tape. I have found that when each student has a white board, they are.more willing to share their answer with the class. The boards and markers will be used to insure that every student has the opportunity share their answers.
The bean bags and floor tape will be used in an exercise we use in class to get the kids up and moving. Earlier in the school year we used paper balls to play a game where your answers got you chances to shoot the paper into the basket. We quickly found out that we were using too much paper and/or we were running out of scrap paper to use. The bean bags will be used to in the classroom to facilitate learning in the classroom. The tape will be used to mark the shot spots in the room.
My students love to learn. We are now tapping into their way of learning. These materials will be used to give them an outlet to show what they know.
