Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine if every student in class could speak at once, and within a matter of seconds, the teacher would know exactly what every one said?

We are a middle school that serves about 500 students.

The majority of our population are made up of English Learners. We are also a Program Improvement school going on year 6+ now, which means our students have not met the math and language arts California state proficiency requirements. But what the scores don't tell you is how much heart our student population has for their school. Our teachers are also a dedicated bunch of workhorses that give much of their time to ensure that our students are ready for high school and beyond.

My Project

Having these magnetic slates for each of my students will help me with quick reviews, understanding of new concepts and encouraging participation. They will be able to have their materials readily available for in-class discussion as well as partner and group collaboration. I can check my students understanding by quickly assessing them and providing me with immediate feedback to reteach or move on.

By supporting this project, I believe that our students will spend less time worrying about having the correct supplies and more time understanding and participating in math.

I am convinced that having these supplies will better inform my teaching and help our school to move in a positive direction.
