Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of our students are looking for positive after-school activities where they can challenge themselves, connect with peers, and develop new skills. For our student, the opportunity to do that doesn't come around so often. This year, they have expressed a strong interest in starting a chess club in order to sharpen their minds, and build a welcoming community for students of all skill levels.

Chess is more than just a game—it teaches students how to plan ahead, think critically, and make thoughtful decisions.

These are skills that can extend way beyond the chess club, and mix into their academics, future careers, and even in their everyday lives.

Right now, we don’t have the resources to provide students with the equipment they need. To launch our chess club, we are requesting chess boards and sets that will allow students to practice, learn, and compete, no matter what level they are. With your help, we can provide multiple chess sets so that everyone has the chance to play.

By supporting this project, you’ll be giving students the tools they need to start something meaningful and lasting at our school and for their futures.
