My Students
My chickadees are a group of seven to eight year old sweeties that love learning! The students in my classroom are entrusted in my care, and I strive to give them the best education possible.
The students are currently in a second grade ICT classroom.
Our students have disabilities that range from emotional disturbance to speech and language impaired. The school is located in Queens, NY. Our school is considered a Title 1 school of low economic status. These students overcome things that many adults would not be able to, and I admire their resilience.
Our kids are largely school-dependent, meaning that they rely on us in all areas. School is a safe and consistent place for my students, and I want to make sure that I help them feel prepared for learning every day. By being able to provide them with board games, I am giving them the opportunity to improve their socializing skills with others. Board games will give my students a positive way to exert their energy and improve their concentration skills. By supporting my classroom you will be giving students support to encourage positive peer interactions.
My Project
Board games play a crucial role in children's development and growth. It is an important aspect of brain development as they help acquire logical and reasoning skills, boost critical thinking and gain spatial reasoning. Playing board games helps with learning, social and communication skills as well.
Children often play video games behind a screen and lack the peer interaction with their friends.
Board games can teach important social skills, such as communicating verbally, sharing, waiting, taking turns, and enjoying interaction with others.
Our students have indoor recess throughout the winter. They are kept in the classroom watching a movie and bored out of their minds! These board games will give our students a way to exert their energy during indoor recess in a positive way.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
