Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Playing board games and enhancing person-to-person interactions are this project's goals. For my advisory class, we added games for high schoolers to promote positive peer relationships (getting them engaged with one another directly). Generation Z students need to put down technology (their cell phones) and interact with each other face to face. They're all so excited to be together, learn new games, and teach each other these games.
Board games can turn learning into fun as a social activity that promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.
An added bonus is being part of a class like this where you authentically learn a game you've always wanted to learn enhances student's social-emotional being. By working in a team, students learn conflict resolution, good sportsmanship, communication, and how to build friendships.
Currently, we have lots of games. We wrote two DonorsChoose projects for several games to get us started. But our students want more of a variety. For this reason, we are requesting another batch of board games.
