This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first-grade inclusion class consists of students who reside in an inner city. Some of them have never been out of their community or even been to visit the New Brunswick Public Library due to its location in the city.
I remember growing up and having a variety of board games surrounding me.
Some were to play alone and some were to play with others. Many life lessons come out of playing board games. Some examples include collaboration, cooperation, critical thinking, language skills, patience, sportsmanship, and turn-taking. I wish to give my students the same opportunities to have fun with their family and friends. It would be a way to create childhood memories for them that will last a lifetime.
Many students are used to playing video games on their systems or computer games. They haven't had the experience of playing board games. I selected classic games, such as Candyland and Trouble. I included some alphabet and sequencing games to support the academics for those who need a little extra.
The board games would be gifted to the students before the Winter Break in December 2024. They would be included in a bag for each student with other treats.
Many families in the community struggle to supply the basics for their children and work multiple jobs. This is a way to help make their holiday season a little brighter while they learn valuable skills.
