“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” This quote, by Benjamin Franklin, describes the classroom environment that I create for my energetic and enthusiastic students. First grade is a busy place with active hands-on learning and happy smiles from students who love to learn and have fun!
My students are engaged and successful learners.
I create a positive environment where every child feels loved, valued, and important every day! I work diligently to meet the social and academic needs of every student. My students love to be greeted every morning as they come into class. They see my smile, hear my laugh, and watch my ever-moving Converse sneakers, as I move around the room to start another day of joyful learning.
My students love using their imagination to build and create with Legos and a wide variety of blocks. I am excited about the opportunity to blend their love of building with engaging science topics to support student learning in life science, physical science, earth science, space science, engineering, and technology. I am requesting four Blocks and Blueprints Learning Centers where the students are challenged to recreate 20 different designs using blueprints to guide their building. Each blueprint shows the design from three different angles so that the students can practice spatial reasoning skills and building 3-D structures. I am also requesting four Building Brick STEM Challenge Kits where students explore challenging physical science concepts by constructing a bridge or a marble maze.
These hands on kits will also help to promote teamwork, communication, and problem solving skills as my students work in groups of two to follow the directions on the blueprint or challenge task card to help them construct a building, bridge, or maze with confidence and creativity.
