Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
So many of my students have just begun to truly enjoy books. As third graders in Texas they get to vote on their favorite Bluebonnet book, but they need the opportunity to read them to make it happen. They do not come from wealthy families and for many of them reading a book is going on vacation.
My students are the most loving and caring kids in the world.
They thrive on knowledge and education. My school is a low income school in which many of my students don't have basic needs met, let alone books at home to increase their literacy. It is my job to ensure that my kids gets the best possible education. They love getting lost in a great novel and imagining that they are part of the story. Having the ability to read so many different genres allows my students to escape the reality of their daily challenges.
My Project
My students will use all of these books to get ahead on their Bluebonnet reading. Each year, third through fifth graders are asked to read at least 5 Bluebonnet Books so they can attend a voting party where they vote on their favorite book as a school. These books will allow my students to fall in love with reading even more than they already do. They cover a wide variety of genres which will allow my students to learn through different elements, some that they are unfamiliar with. Titles include The Ghosts of Tupelo Landing, The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom, and Mountain Dog to name a few.
These donations will help prepare my students for their future.
It will give them an opportunity they normally would never have! It will help their reading fluency, accuracy, and comprehension. It will allow them to jump into the stories as if they were truly part of it.
