This year will be my 11th year teaching kindergarten at our school! Every year I get wonderful students and wonderful parents, I am so blessed!
My school is an inner city public school and while we have some basic supplies given to us, all the "fun stuff", the extras, the things that make learning exciting for the students, are bought with money I contribute to the classroom.
Every student in our school receives free breakfast and lunch daily. Many students come from single parent households. Some students have had preschool experience, while a lot of them have not.
Being that my students are young they love to learn through hands-on experiences and creative learning. They love to work with, and share ideas with, their friends in the class. My students are funny, loving, emotional, full of energy and excited to learn!
Kindergarten is a noisy place, and while for the most part the noise is part of the fun, sometimes we also need to learn quietly. One of these quiet learning times is while students are working on their individualized computer programs. As the students work on their computers I pull small groups or individual students to do leveled activities. It's during this time that we really need to be able to hear each other and focus on our learning. We all know the computer is fun and it can easily distract others. I would like each student to have a nice set of headphones to use every day so each student can have their academic needs met.
