My students are prekindergarten students who meet the state requirements and are labeled as being "at risk" of not succeeding, thus they are placed in the program to help them succeed. They are four years of age, and live in a medium-large city.
My children love to explore, experiment, build, and create, and I am eager to expand outside resources in my classroom.
My classroom is a newer classroom, and is in need of many materials to expand science, math, and the outdoor curriculum. Although I provide as much as I can from my own stock of materials, sometimes newer and fresh materials grab their interest better.
My Project
Young children love to build. I am working on enhancing my outside environment, to make it more of an extension of my classroom. Blue building blocks will enable the children to build forts, castles, and other buildings to use in their creative play outside.
"The whole difference between construction and creation is exactly this: that a thing constructed can only be loved after it is constructed; but a thing created is loved before it exists." -Charles Young children are creators.
Having building blocks to construct with will allow them to create as many things as their mind can imagine.
With building blocks outside, I can ask my children to create things to go along with their play. Today, children were "tracking horses" and being "cowboys" - imagine their play if they could build a stable for the horses they found! These blue blocks will grow and stretch their imaginary play immensely.
