My students need an Elmo projector to project difficult reading material and student work larger than life for all to see.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My AP Biology students will be able to share data on the big screen with this valuable tool! As our school has moved to create a "college-going" culture the demand for my AP Biology course has increased from 17 students 3 years ago, to 110 students this year. All of my students are current 11 and 12 graders. Eighty six percent of the students in my high school are socio-economically disadvantaged. My students amaze me in that they refuse to allow their circumstances to affect their motivation to succeed in high school and move on to college. The choice they make to challenge themselves with college level courses like AP Biology is evidence of their commitment to preparing themselves for the challenges of college that lie ahead.
My classes are large. I currently have classes of 33, 34 and 40! Many of the students are non-native English speakers, so while they speak English and are no longer classified as English language learner's, they still struggle with the complex vocabulary of AP Biology and a text book that is written at the university level. Furthermore, it is challenging in classes of this size, to be sure that everyone is following the directions for the lab or writing the data in the correct place.
The Elmo projector would put our classroom on the cutting edge of modern technology. It would allow my students to project any document on the big screen and actually work from the document to solve problems while all the other students look on. The projector would also enable me to better meet the language challenges of my students by allowing me to project lab directions and difficult reading material onto the big screen and then take them through it step by step.
Your generosity will make it possible for my AP Biology students to better understand the difficult subject matter of the class. It will allow them to interact directly with documents on the big screen so that everyone in the class will be engaged. It will help to clarify when students may not understand difficult material. You will be making a difference in the lives of students this year and in many years to come.
