My Students

Our school is a PreK through eighth grade building that nearly 900 students call their home. Norfolk is home to the largest naval base in the world. Many of our families are part of the military, which means that many of our students have to deal with one, or even both, of their parents, being on deployment for long periods of time.

One of my biggest goals each year is to help my students become confident readers and maybe even develop a love for reading.

Many of my students come to me as struggling readers. Every year, I am impressed with how hard they are willing to work to fill in those gaps and see how much they grow.

Between my two classes, I teach reading, writing, and history to nearly 50 students, including students receiving special education services, English language learners, as well as gifted learners.

My hope is to provide the students with a safe and fun place to learn! Over the years, I have worked very hard at turning our classroom into our "Home Sweet Classroom!"

My Project

If you want your children to love to read, then you must give them books to fall in love with! A few years ago, I made it a goal to restock my classroom library with books students enjoy and want to read. Since then, I have added 100s of books and completely flipped our library. This year, my students have returned to school for the first time since March 2020. I have been blown away by their eagerness to read books. Watching them pick their books each day is truly inspiring.

The books in this project focus on spring holidays and gardens!

We have a beautiful nature section in our library and I am looking forward to adding these new titles to it! I also love setting out new books with the holidays and our spring collection is lacking!
