My students need a digital camera, memory card, and case to use for the class blog to digitally document classroom activities and learning throughout the school year.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students jump at the chance to use new technology! I want to introduce my students to digital photography and blogging as a means to document, explain, and share with friends and family all of the great things they are learning in 2nd grade.
I have a Spanish bilingual classroom that is full of energetic learners.
They come to school each day eager and ready to learn. They are at a K-2 school in a low income, rather dangerous part of the city. The school is a safe, caring environment for the students to learn in. There are 15 girls and 13 boys in the class, all with varying interests and academic levels. The one thing they have in common is the desire to advance their academic abilities. They love interesting, hands-on lessons that allows them to be creative and share what they have learned with others.
My Project
In a world that integrates technology more and more into everyday life, it is essential that students begin learning the basics of using technology. A digital camera will allow the students to add media to a daily blog in which they describe what they are learning and why it is important. The camera will also address the arts as I will teach them how to take quality photos and allow them to creatively edit the photos they take. The photos and the blog will also give the students the opportunity to share what they are learning with their friends and family. This will give students another interesting topic to discuss and share with their families at home. In doing this, their parents and families will hopefully take more interest in the learning of their children and will be more aware of what is happening in the classroom. While students are creating their blog entries, they will be practicing and using the writing skills they have acquired during writing lessons.
This project will help students become more aware of what they are learning and understanding why it is important in their lives.
The students will gain valuable experience using technology to share their thought, ideas, and learning.
