My students need 6 or 7 copies of 8 different book titles from "Operation: Yes!" to "Emily's Fortune."

My Students
Have you ever read a really great book but had no one to share the experience with? My students are so excited when they finish a book with characters or situations they can identify with. A book club would be a perfect way to bring students together to talk about quality books.
I am a teacher librarian at an elementary school that services many Navy and Army families in Hawaii.
The library is the center of encouraging literacy on our Preschool-6th grade campus.
About half of the students at my school are military dependents who move locations every three years. This monthly book club provides an opportunity for these students to find peers who enjoy the same type of books in a friendly atmosphere.
My Project
Last school year I was able to hold monthly book club meetings with the financial support of Donors Choose. I hope to continue these meetings this year using your donations. This project will enable me to lend out multiple copies of the selected novels to the students.
My monthly book club meetings will be dedicated to discussing quality literature from the Nene Award Suggested Reading List. This is a Hawaii Book Award chosen by children in grades 4-6. Book club members will be required to create a blog entry on the library website prior to a book club meeting. The blog will allow them to begin to share their feelings and thoughts about books. Then, during meetings I will lead discussions on favorite scenes and personal connections from the book of the month. Students can also write additional comments on the library blog during book club meetings.
Your donations will help students find fellow classmates on campus who enjoy reading.
It will provide good literature for students to discuss both digitally and face-to-face in the library. These discussions will encourage critical thinking and foster a love of reading for the students.
