My Project
I am requesting the Ninja food processor and blender for my students, to teach them how to prepare smoothies. This project is a part of another project "Serving a Special Blend". We aim to teach our students how to prep, prepare and serve the public.
My students are a wonderful group of young people.
Their lives have been faced with daily challenges. In our classroom, sure, we are teaching them language arts, math, science and social studies. Along with all of that we are guiding them in learning life skills. Skills that will allow them to have a better quality of life. Skills they will use beyond these middle school walls. Myself and my teaching assistants want to give our students a more hands on learning experience of these skills. Training that will help them develop and use to obtain employment in the future.
Our students will learn to how to prep fruit to make smoothies, take orders and deliver those orders staff in our building.
This project was inspired by a local coffee shop that provides employment to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We want our students to see their possibilities. This "Serving a Special Blend" project will empower our students and strengthen their communication skills as they learn about customer service. What better way than beginning to show where their abilities can take them, the places that can go.
