My students need math manipulatives such as Unifix Cubes, 3-D shapes, and Base ten blocks, to start the year off with a blast. They need to be fully engaged in order to be the math whizzes they can be.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in class is children saying we do not have enough unfix cubes . Do we have anymore? This is a common phrase that children say in my class with everything that I have during math. I only wish that i can make math more fun. I can with your help.
I teach Kindergarten students in a high need inner city school.
For many of my students , kindergarten is their first real math experience . We are using a new program and we are doing a good job. Yet much work is needed. Many of my students are English language learners. They come very eager to learn and work very hard. This translates to success for students as a whole . Our school has received an A as an outstanding school. It is also a National Blue Ribbon School.
My Project
A big part of Kindergarten is learning about the calendar and learning how to count by 1's, 5's,10's to 100. The wall calender will be used to show children the days of the week, counting sequence from 1 to 100 and learning to count by tens. The abacus will help children to count by tens to reach to 100. The ten frames chart will give the children a visual to learn what numbers look like from 1 to 100 using the ten frame. They will be able to compose and decompose numbers from 1 to 10. In Kindergarten the children also study 3-D shapes using the shapes in the kit.
My students need the following math materials so they can get support learning the common core standards feel if my class receives these materials early in the year they will be able to have a strong foundation and be able to blastoff to a great year.
