This year, my students are creative, inspiring, and adaptable. We are learning how to use new technology and they love using the Lego software we use for out FIRST Lego League Jr. teams we started this year!
My students are bright and eager to learn about the world and why things are like they are.
They love to learn about science through experiments and nonfiction books. They enjoy math and are learning addition and subtraction. They are hard at work learning to read and write exciting stories. They also love recess and a chance to get out in the fresh air and run around. We also have after school programming where we have time for enrichment after homework time. I and another teacher coached two new FLLJr. teams this year. It was rewarding, challenging, and FUN!
More than half of the students in my class and clubs come from low-economic homes, but that doesn't stop their determination to learn. We have lots of goals that we will meet this year!
We will use the legos to explore space by building a rocket and simple machines that may be useful for living in space. My students will use the additional sets to experiment with ways to make and collect energy that would bee useful on Earth and in space. The Women of NASA sets will be used as a conversation piece as we build them to
One of my favorite parts of FIRST LEGO League Jr coaching is when my students share with each other their favorite part of the season and what they learned.
We put their ideas and experiences on trip-fold boards so they can share with others at competition and in our after school club, the HIVE.
Having additional simple machines will encourage my students to build using plans and then be able to discover how they can automate them using the WeDo2.0 software as we learn through the season. After this season, the Legos will be used in my first grade class and in additional after school club programming.
