Think about the first book you loved. Picture the way it felt to tear through the pages because you could not wait to discover what happened next. Remember that feeling? Help my students find their first " I can't put it down" discovery!
My students are a group of highly motivated fourth graders.
They face a lot of hardships in their lives and school is definitely a safe place in an otherwise chaotic and difficult environment. Many of these wonderful children only see a book at school and going to the library is not an option.
My Project
My students need 6 copies of a variety of children's books including My Side of the Mountain, Hatchet and Julie of the Wolves, in order to work in cooperative literature circle groups. The books that you donate will help us have more experiences delving into the power of novels. Students will be able to work in a book club or literature circle and share a award-winning novel with their classmates. They will be able to have the type of book conversations that are critical to developing the level of comprehension skills that will lead to a lifetime of success. This donation will also allow the students to share common experiences with books, which is not a regular occurrence for them. This gift will inspire and teach-- a powerful combination.
As adults, we have been shaped by the books we were exposed to as children.
Please help my students be molded and shaped by high quality literature and the kindness of generous people that are willing to uplift their powerful minds. I look forward to your gifts being the books that my students can't put down!
