Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in an inner city classroom full of eager readers and inquisitive minds! I would like to supply those minds with the knowledge they need. My students have eager for new knowledge and understanding, but the classroom does not have adequate supplies to encourage the knowledge and understanding to grow.
The classroom supply of books to enhance their learning is low, and my goal is to give them adequate books to broaden their knowledge of history. The books I need correlate with our Social Studies curriculum, which covers American history. Two of my favorites titles that I am requesting our My Brother Sam is Dead and Caddie Woodlawn. I have requested four to five copies of some titles to allow for small reading groups in the classroom.
It is my hope that through these novels, my students' limited background will stretch past limits as they learn about times in the past through these characters. These novels span between the times of Colonial America, through the American Revolution, right on through the Civil War, and ending with the Civil Rights Movement. Your help will ensure that my students have adequate supplies to enhance their learning of American History by taking them through this historical timeline created by the novels.
