My 3/4 grade students are passionate about their creativity and work in the classroom. Unfortunately their urban setting makes it difficult for them to appreciate the history of their environment.

All of my projects in the classroom allow my students to embrace the content personally especially in Social Studies. But as a first year teacher and lack of extra funding for supplies, it's difficult to see my creative projects come alive. Also Social Studies is one of the more challenging subjects for the students in my class due to the culture and language barriers. Most of the kids immigrated here not so long ago and have a difficult time understanding and embracing the history of America.

Though I am extremely excited for our upcoming Native American unit, I am nervous about the lack of supplies. I want to take reading and comprehension to the next level. Not only will my students be able to understand the content, but they will be able to experience the lives that lived before them. We need art materials including paper, glue, plaster cloth and basket making supplies along with books to embrace the experiences of the Native Americans. They will be create pottery, poetry, masks, artifacts, and head pieces out of the art supplies. They will be able to shadow the footsteps of some of the first people to set foot in America.
