My classroom is a dynamic space where students share ideas and engage in rigorous academic discourse.
My fifth graders are eager learners, enthusiastic, and inquisitive about the world around them.
They absolutely deserve the best, but limited resources both at the school and in the community make it challenging to provide them with everything they need to be successful scholars. Approximately 80% of the students at my school are English learners, 20% newcomers to the country, and over 95% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
As we are approaching winter, the weather outside is getting colder. Although our state is known for great weather year-round, it does actually get cold during late fall and winter and the temperature drops in the evening. It's even colder at home if you don't have centralized heating or insulation in the walls.
I would love for each student to have their own fleece throw blanket to keep them warm as they read at home or hang out with family.
It's hard to concentrate on homework if you are shivering inside your home. These throw blankets can be also used as an extra blanket on the bed to keep my students extra warm at night.
Having a special blanket to wrap themselves in will not only warm up my students, but it will also help them feel safe, comfortable, and loved.
